Library - Utilities

In this activity, I put my library on the site plan and drew five lines to connect my library to various utilities.

Reflection
This activity wasn't too hard. It was just a little difficult to align the library on the pad because it lagged a lot.

Activity 3.2.9

In this activity, I made calculations having to do with footings for different situations.

Here are my calculations:
Reflection
This activity was kind of difficult, but it was short which made it easier.

Activity 3.2.6

In this activity, I did calculations to find out which beams to use.

Here are my calculations and MD solids diagrams:

Reflections
This activity was kind of difficult but once I got going with it, it got easier.

Beam Analysis Shortcuts - Activity 3.2.4

In this activity, I did used equations to figure out the end reactions and maximum moments of the same beams in activity 3.2.3. Also, I used MD solids to make shear and moment diagrams.

Reflection
This activity was a lot easier than 3.2.3 because I did the 3.2.3 activity before it and was able to get a pretty good handle on what I was doing. Also, I just had to plug in numbers into an equation instead of going through the whole process of trying to look at the beam and figure out where to go from there.

Beam Analysis - Activity 3.2.3

In this project, I went through Activity 3.2.3 and calculated the reactions and moments and made shear and moment diagrams.

Reflection
This activity was kind of difficult. I didn't really get what we were supposed to do and how to do it. However, as I went through it, I got the hang of it and my work got a lot neater.

Keystone Library - Roof Framing

In this project, we made calculations and figured out what roof joists to use.

Here is a picture of my roof framing sheet

Reflection
This project was difficult because there were a lot of calculations. However, I was able to understand it and finish the project.

Keystone Library - Project 3.1.1

In this project, we had to add components and figure out the layout of our library.

These are the deliverables:

Reflection
I thought this project was sort of difficult because there was a lot of things to do and a lot of requirements. One of the things I would've done differently is plan out the rooms better. This would've made it easier and made it look better. I enjoyed seeing a more complete library and building at the end of this project.

Commercial Floor Systems

In this project, we researched and then put in either a cast-in-place or precast concrete floor on the second level. I chose to put in a precast concrete floor.

Reflection
This part of the project was pretty simple. There aren't really any things that I would do differently.

Structural Efficiency

In this project, we used cards to build a structure that was supposed to hold 5 lbs. We weighed it and then tested to see how much weight it would hold. We then used these numbers to calculate the structural efficiency.

Competition Results
Our structure did fairly well compared to the class. This is because the structure didn't weigh very much so the structural efficiency rating was higher.

Calculation
Our structural efficiency rating was 436.1

Conclusion
One of the changes that we made that really helped was after testing our first design, we started over and changed from a triangle structure to a circular tube structure with cards in between. This made our structure a lot stronger.

Commercial Roof Systems

In this activity, we researched green roofing systems and then put a roof on our Keystone Library.

Here is my research:
Step Tuff is a good brand for roofing finishes that you can walk on.

There are extensive and intensive roofs. Extensive roofs have a smaller amount of soil medium so it is lighter, but it limits the types of plants you are able to have. I am going to use an intensive green roofing system because I want a variety of plants of all shapes and sizes for my roof.

This is the section sheet of my roof and wall and a 3D view of my green roof:

Reflection:
During this activity, it was difficult finding what types of treatments were good for a roof that you can walk on. It was cool to see the green roof in place in Revit.

Description:
We researched different wall types and chose one to put in the Keystone Library. Then we drew the wall in Revit on the building.

These is the section and 3D view of the wall and Keystone Library:

Reflection:
I thought that this was fairly easy. The only somewhat difficult part was getting the wall at the right height. If I were to do the activity again, I don't think I would do anything differently.

Affordable House - Support Drawings

Project Description
In this part of the Affordable House project, I took my floor plan and planned out a plumbing plan.

Plumbing Plan

Reflection
I enjoyed learning about how plumbing lines fit into the house. However, it was sort of hard because I was gone the day that we went over the plumbing powerpoint so when I went over it myself, it was a little confusing. However, I ended up figuring it out.

Affordable House - Site Plan

Project Description:
In this project, we worked on annotating out site plan and creating a sheet for our site plan.

Picture of Revit Site Plan Drawing Sheet:

Reflection:
During the project, I had a problem where I had grass in my house file so when I tried to link it into my site, it looked strange. So, I had to go back and delete it which caused some errors when I tried to re-link it back into the site. Other than this problem, the project was pretty straightforward. I enjoyed seeing my house actually on the site with the landscaping and everything else.

Affordable House - Support Drawings

This is a part of the Affordable House project. In this part of the project, I created an electrical plan for my house.

Here are pictures of the electrical panel and the meter.

Reflection:
One thing I learned from this project is that all kitchen outlets have to be GFI's. Also, I learned what a 3-way switch is. One thing I found difficult is reading through the whole electrical code and applying it to my house. I enjoyed learning about how electricity is incorporated into a house. If I were to do this project over again, I don't think I would've done anything differently.
